On your marks, get set, GO!!!

Later on today at 20:14 local time, 16:14 GMT, the World will see the grand opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics being held in Sochi, Russia, for what will be Omega’s 26th year as official time keeper and partner for the global event. Athletes from around the world will compete in sub-zero temperatures, all with the aim of standing on the winner’s podium with a gold medal around their neck, tears in their eyes and their national anthem blaring out for all to hear.

In true Omega fashion, they have commemorated the Games with an Olympic Collection triathlon of watches for Sochi 2014, all as Limited Editions and each offering something different for the market. As with the medals themselves, there will be very few of these watches around so the lucky few who own this will be carrying like the Olympic torch itself.

The 45.5mm Planet Ocean stands like a true Olympian with its beating heart, the exclusive Si14 movement you now find in pretty much all automatic Omega watches. The now at home ceramic bezel sits perfectly balanced with its National Flag colours adding that touch of something special. It’s the name of the silicon balance spring, Si14 that looks favourably well on the case back of the watch as it has a limited edition of 2,014 pcs and the Games are being held in Sochi. Fairly tenuous link but it looks good! Anyway this same movement can also be found in the second offering from Omega for the Winter Games in the form of a svelte and sleek 37.5mm Planet Ocean with a white ceramic bezel which fits in perfectly with the snowy arena. This too comes as a limited edition of 2,014 and both offer a dash of colour too as the minute counters 1 through 5 are blue and 6 through 10 a nice shade of red as homage to the hosting nation’s National colours.  Both watches are also engraved on the back with the City and Year for the Winter Games 2014.

The third instalment but by no means in third place, is a truly exquisite tonneau shaped “Petrograd” inspired from a vintage watch from Omega’s Museum collection.  It really does take gold position with its 18ct yellow gold case and attractive engraving on the case back, once again with “Sochi, Ru 2014” as found on the previous two watches. The colours of the Russian flag, red white and blue are again encompassed on the dial giving the watch a completely significant look for this memorable occasion.
