The Rolex Day-Date 40: A Legacy of Prestige

Introduced in 1956, it was the first wristwatch to feature both the day of the week and date displayed on the dial. Over the years, the Day-Date has become synonymous with success, power, and elegance, often favored by influential individuals from all walks of life.

The Rolex 228238 is part of the Day-Date 40 collection, which features a 40mm case—an ideal size that provides a perfect balance between boldness and wearability. While it maintains the classic features that have made the Day-Date so iconic, this particular model pushes the boundaries of design with its deconstructed Roman numeral dial

The Silver Deconstructed Roman Numeral Dial

One of the most distinctive features of the Rolex 228238 is its silver deconstructed Roman numeral dial, a design that deviates from the traditional look of Roman numerals. The numerals have been artfully deconstructed and arranged in a way that adds depth and intrigue to the dial, giving the timepiece a modern and dynamic look while still maintaining a classic feel. This unique design enhances the overall visual appeal of the watch and creates a sense of movement within the dial itself.

The silver dial serves as the perfect backdrop for these bold Roman numerals, making them stand out without being overwhelming. The 18k yellow gold hands create a striking contrast against the silver, ensuring easy time reading in any light conditions.

Discover the Iconic Rolex 126710BLNR – A Perfect Blend of Precision and Style

The Rolex 126710BLNR, often referred to as the "Batgirl," is one of the most sought-after timepieces in the world of luxury watches. With its striking blue and black bezel, iconic design, and impressive functionality, it’s easy to see why the Rolex Batman and its sibling, the Rolex 'Batgirl', have become legends in the horology world. As the latest iteration of the Rolex GMT-Master II, the 126710BLNR offers an enhanced combination of elegance, precision, and versatility, making it a must-have for both collectors and watch enthusiasts alike.

Let’s take a deeper look at what makes the Rolex 126710BLNR 'Batgirl' so special.

A Brief History of the Rolex GMT-Master II

Before diving into the specifics of the 126710BLNR, it’s important to understand its history. The Rolex GMT-Master II line has a legacy dating back to the early 1950s, when it was first developed to serve the needs of airline pilots and frequent travelers. Its primary function was to allow the wearer to keep track of two time zones simultaneously, thanks to the iconic 24-hour rotating bezel and second-time zone hand.

The GMT-Master II has gone through several iterations over the years, and with each new release, Rolex has continuously refined its design and technology. The 126710BLNR is the modern evolution of this storied line, offering improvements in movement, materials, and overall design.

The Aesthetic Appeal of the Batgirl

One of the most striking features of the Rolex 126710BLNR is its bold, two-tone blue and black ceramic bezel. This vibrant bezel, which gives the watch its nickname “Batgirl,” offers a unique color combination that’s both modern and timeless. The blue represents daytime hours, while the black represents nighttime, making it perfect for the GMT function of the watch.

The steel case of the 126710BLNR measures 40mm in diameter, making it the perfect size for most wrists. It has a polished and brushed finish, ensuring that it catches the light beautifully while maintaining a rugged, sporty appearance. The case’s robust design is paired with a black dial and white hour markers that make it easy to read at a glance, even in low light, thanks to the Chromalight luminescent markers.

Additionally, the Rolex 126710BLNR features the iconic Cyclops lens over the date window, magnifying the date by 2.5 times for easier reading. This familiar feature gives the watch its signature look, further enhancing its appeal.

The Rolex GMT-Master II Movement

Powering the Rolex 126710BLNR is the legendary Rolex Caliber 3285 movement. This self-winding movement is based on the Rolex Caliber 3135 but has been enhanced with improved precision, power reserve, and efficiency. The Caliber 3285 boasts a 70-hour power reserve, meaning the watch will keep ticking for more than two full days without needing to be wound.

The Caliber 3285 features Rolex's Parachrom hairspring, which improves the watch's resistance to shocks and magnetic fields. This movement is also known for its accuracy, running within -2/+2 seconds per day, which is well above the industry standard.

As with all Rolex timepieces, the 126710BLNR is chronometer-certified, ensuring that it meets Rolex’s high standards for precision. The GMT-Master II function allows the wearer to track multiple time zones with ease, making it a favorite among travelers and business professionals alike.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about Audemars Piguet serial numbers, including how to locate them and  how to decode them in order to date an Audemars Piguet (AP) watch.

Where Can I Find My Audemars Piguet Serial Number?

Each watch manufactured by Audemars Piguet has a unique serial number, which you will find on the case back. You will also find it on your warranty card and certificate.

Audemars Piguet produces approximately 40,000 watches each year, and each timepiece is assigned a unique serial number located on the caseback.

Since 1975, the serial numbering system has included a letter prefix, which changes after every 100,000 watches produced. By taking into account the annual production of around 40,000 watches, we can estimate that the letter will typically change every two and a half to three years.

This system allows us to roughly estimate the year of manufacture by comparing the serial number on your watch to others. For example, a watch with a serial number that follows a previous one can generally be assumed to have been made around three years after the last one in the sequence.

Understanding Rolex Serial Numbers: How to Date a Rolex Watch

Rolex watches are not only known for their exceptional craftsmanship, luxury, and precision, but also for the unique serial numbers they carry. These serial numbers are not just random digits—they hold valuable information about the watch including its production year. In this blog post, we will explore how to read Rolex serial numbers and how you can use them to date your Rolex watch.

What is a Rolex Serial Number?

A Rolex serial number is a unique identifier that Rolex assigns to each watch it manufactures. Located between the lugs of the case, usually at the 6 o'clock position, the serial number offers important information regarding the production year and sometimes the specific model variation. This serial number allows collectors, buyers, and sellers to trace the history of a Rolex and confirm its authenticity.

Where to Find the Serial Number on a Rolex?

For most Rolex models, you can find the serial number engraved between the lugs at the 6 o’clock position of the watch. You may need to remove the bracelet to view it clearly, as it is typically hidden underneath. For newer models, Rolex laser engraves the serial number on the rehaut between the sapphire crystal and the dial on the 6 o'clock side.

Rolex Manufacture Date Look Up Tool & Chart

Understanding the production year of your Rolex watch is an essential part of its value and history. Rolex serial numbers offer a simple way to identify the year your watch was made. Here's a Rolex serial number chart that provides an approximate year of manufacture based on the serial number.

Rolex Serial Number Chart

How to Use This Chart

To determine the approximate manufacture year of your Rolex:

  1. Locate the Serial Number: Remove the bracelet from your Rolex and look for the serial number engraved on the case, typically located between the 6 o’clock lugs.  For newer models, Rolex laser engraves the serial number on the rehaut between the sapphire crystal and the dial on the 6 o'clock side.

  2. Match the Serial Number: Find the closest match on the chart. The first digit or letter of the serial number will give you a range of years in which your Rolex was produced.

  3. Estimate the Year: Use the chart to determine the production year of your Rolex based on the serial number.
